As the new school year begins, we are also excited to kick off the Future Leaders Program this Saturday, August 30. This school year is more than just a chance to buy fresh notebooks; it’s also a new opportunity to grow and set goals.  This is the perfect opportunity to take on new challenges and embrace growth.

Here are our top tips for a successful school year:

  1. Stay Organized: Using a planner to keep track of assignments, tests, and activities can help you stay on top of deadlines and reduce stress. There are many options for planners, some people opt for a classic physical planner, but digital planners have also become more popular. It’s up to you to decide what works best for you!

  2. Establish a Study Routine: Set aside a consistent time each day to study and review notes. Consistency builds strong academic habits, helps you discover what study techniques work best for you, and prevents last-minute cramming. Having an organized study space can also lead to better academic success. Try having a clear space, free of distractions, where you can keep all of your study stuff. Having a designated space can help hold yourself accountable and make studying less stressful.

  3. Ask for Help When Needed: Don’t be afraid to ask teachers, counselors, or peers for help if you’re struggling with a subject. Asking for help is a sign that you care about your learning experience and are interested in improving. Seeking support early makes challenges more manageable and shows that you are responsible for your education.

  4. Stay Healthy: Health is about more than just what you eat. It’s important to balance school with good sleep, exercise, and a healthy diet. A well-rested and active body helps your brain perform at its best. Prioritizing eating whole food ensures your body is getting the proper nutrition, and don’t forget to drink your water! Eating three meals a day and getting some exercise can help make sure you feel good every day.

  5. Limit Distractions: When studying, turn off notifications or use apps that block social media. Focused study sessions are more effective and save time. Try using a pomodoro timer to hold yourself accountable in time management. Don’t forget to take breaks while studying, it can help make sure your brain stays fresh during long study sessions.

  6. Manage Stress: Learn healthy ways to cope with stress. Journaling can be a great way to manage stress. Being able to communicate your feelings is important to prevent emotional burnout. Deep breathing exercises can also be helpful, especially during demanding periods of the year like midterms and finals. Using music to decompress can also be helpful. Make a de-stress playlist featuring calming music, and maybe some of your other favorites!

  7. Build Good Relationships: Be respectful and kind to teachers, classmates, and staff. Positive connections make school a more enjoyable place and open new opportunities. This is also your opportunity to join new clubs and explore new connections. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone, growth is all about change.

  8. Build Time-Management Skills: Break big tasks into smaller steps and use timers to stay focused. Using your time wisely will make achieving your goals and managing your schedule easier. Creating to-do lists and identifying what your most important task of the day is can help you prioritize your time and be more efficient.

  9. Stay Consistent: Consistency is key when it comes to success. Achieving your goals comes from daily habits, not occasional effort. Try setting up a daily tracker to make sure you hit your goals every day. You can also tell your friends your ambitions to hold yourself accountable!

  10. Think Beyond Grades: Your grades are important, but your academic career tells a whole story beyond just test scores. Think about who you are outside of school and how you can leverage your other skills to paint a portrait of yourself. Maybe this involves joining new clubs, volunteering outside of school, or developing hobbies that are important to you.

A new school year is more than just a calendar milestone; it’s a chance to reset and imagine what’s possible. By staying organized and maintaining healthy habits you’ll set yourself up with success both inside and outside the classroom. The Future Leaders Program is here to support you every step of the way and together we will make this year one of growth and achievement.
