Our Program

Few programs in public education today are like the Brewer Foundation Future Leaders Program (FLP).

Founded in 2001, the FLP is an academic and leadership development program that benefits more than 150 students, ages 12 to 18, from urban communities within the Dallas Independent School District (DISD). Through year-round academic courses, leadership training, and exposure to a wide array of cultural programs, the FLP helps prepare its “future leaders” for success in college and beyond.

Students are chosen for the FLP based on scholastic aptitude, school attendance, civic involvement, and leadership potential. Approximately 80 percent of all FLP participants will be first-generation college students.

The program is fully funded by the Brewer Foundation and is available to its student participants for free. As the first program of its kind ever offered in Texas, the FLP has been recognized by the Texas State Board of Education and the Texas Governor’s office and is now emerging as a national model of public-private partnership.
